Recently, the Upper Mississippi / Great Lakes Joint Venture (UMGL JV) announced the unveiling of their new and improved website. The website revision has been a work in progress over the past year for the JV, working closely with the company CryBaby Design. The fruits of these efforts are finally available to the public for their information needs and bird partnership inspirations!
The vision of the website improvement was to update and refresh the overall style, design, and text of the site, as well as to make it more useful to JV partners. The home page is bright and eye-catching, showcasing attractive images of important bird species in the region, as well as displaying the JV’s mission, geographic boundary, recent news, and quick links to valuable conservation tools and plans.
A major highlight of the new website is the Planning pages, which have been updated with the JV’s recently revised Waterfowl and Waterbird Habitat Conservation Strategies. The Maps and GIS subpage displays images and descriptions of the numerous GIS files available to partners for their conservation planning purposes, including the new Decision Support Tools that were completed for the revised Waterfowl and Waterbird Strategies. A new website feature to highlight is the News page and the Recent News & Events section on the Home page, where blog posts describing such topics as funding opportunities, important JV meeting updates, and partner projects will be published periodically.
The UMGL JV website is intuitive and easy to navigate and is intended to be a one-stop shop for a plethora of bird conservation planning information. The website overhaul will be instrumental for JV staff and partnerships to easily share information, to inspire bird conservation efforts with new and traditional partners, and to tell their story.
