Joint Venture Networks
International, Regional, and Local Networks
Joint Venture staff participate in different national/international networks that provide forums for JVs to coordinate and strengthen their efforts beyond the regional level.
The Joint Venture Communications, Education, and Outreach Team
The Joint Venture Communications, Education, and Outreach Team (CEOT) brings together CEO staff to share expertise on how to help Joint Ventures achieve bird and habitat conservation objectives through strategic communications. The Team works to identify common messages and target audiences among Joint Ventures and develop appropriate national and international level tools to engage them. It provides guidance, feedback, and resources to all Joint Ventures and bird plan partners on the formulation of CEO plans, strategies, and products. It also serves as an important forum for interaction with other professionals among the Joint Ventures and the broader conservation community.

The North American Waterfowl Management Plan Science Support Team (NSST)
Established in 2000 to provide guidance to the North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP) Committee on issues pertaining to the scientific foundation of waterfowl conservation, recognizing that effective conservation requires adaptive cycles of planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs at both the continental and Joint Venture scales. The NSST brings together NAWMP Committee members, Joint Venture Science staff, and representatives from the four Flyway Councils and provides a regular forum for formally linking these entities on a continuing basis so that conservation efforts for waterfowl can be better coordinated across multiple spatial and temporal scales (i.e., beyond the operational footprint of any one Joint Venture). Additionally, the NSST provides a platform for generating a unified voice through the Plan Committee for requesting changes in conservation capacity and policy.

The Unified Science Team (UST)
The Unified Science Team complements the NSST by supporting the Joint Ventures’ non-waterfowl bird conservation efforts as well as other partnerships at the regional, national, and range-wide/continental scales (specifically, Partners in Flight; the U.S., Canadian, and Mexican Shorebird Conservation Plans; and Waterbird Conservation for the Americas). The purposes of the UST are:
- Help coordinate and guide the bird initiatives in advancing and strengthening their scientific foundation, population objectives, and delivery mechanisms.
- Help JVs coordinate on identifying priority information needs at a multi-JV or Bird Conservation Region scale.
- Capitalize on synergy among Joint Ventures and bird initiatives to develop projects that address shared priority information needs.
- Create a forum to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas across scales to make bird conservation efforts more effective.
The Association of Joint Venture Management Boards
The Association of Joint Venture Management Boards (AJVMB) is made up of Management Board Chairs and Members from each of the Joint Ventures. It works to increase the ability of Migratory Bird Joint Venture partnerships to deliver bird conservation objectives by:
- Promoting appropriate funding for Joint Ventures from the federal government and other sources.
- Increasing awareness about the vital role Joint Ventures play in delivering all-bird conservation.
- Increasing active engagement of the Joint Venture Management Boards in the Association’s efforts.
- Developing common messages regarding the advantages of the diverse Joint Venture partnership approach to bird conservation.
- Coordinating communications to legislators to convey specific needs and accomplishments, and develop similar messages for other potential funding sources.
- Providing a forum for communication among the Joint Venture Management Boards.
- Sharing “lessons-learned” among the Joint Venture Management Boards to improve the overall operations of Joint Ventures.
- Enhancing the identity and appreciation of Joint Ventures.
- Respecting the individuality, autonomy and importance of each Joint Venture.
